Netflix whips out Castlevania: Nocturne Divine Bloodlines main trailer

Longtime fans of the Castlevania video games by Konami will recognize the Divine Bloodlines music as Richter Belmont's theme. However, the new trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne rearranges the theme and adds orchestral choruses, giving it a more cinematic polish. Appropriately, the crescendos place emphasis during the trailer's high-octane action, highlighting Richter Belmont's abilities and the weapons he uses to slay monsters and, specifically, vampires.

There are also scenes that flesh out some of Richter Belmont's backstory. It appears the animated series will give a tragic origin for Richter which was not in the original video games' lore. As a child, the young Belmont will suffer the loss of one or more of his parents at the hands of vampires, leaving him on his own.

and Annette are also going to be revised in the anime series. Maria is significantly older than her video game counterpart, while Annette will have a darker skin tone and originate from the Carribean as an ex-slave fighting during the French Revolution.

Plus, more details about the overall plot is shown in the new Castlevania: Nocturne trailer, indicating that the main antagonist Erzsebet Báthory is seeking to bring forth a so-called Vampire Messiah. Fans of the Castlevania games will recognize this plot as a variation of the story in the Sega Genesis title Castlevania: Bloodlines (although the villain in that story was named Elizabeth Bartley).

Notably absent from the trailer is the presence of Dracula himself. Could he be the Vampire Messiah? And what of the fate of Dracula's son, Alucard? Given the video game history of Richter and Alucard being intertwined in

Symphony of the Night

, it would seem odd if the latter will not be appearing in Castlevania: Nocturne.
