The Power Rangers franchise has enjoyed incredible success - with some ups and downs - since its debut in the 1990s. With a catalog comprising dozens of films, television series, toys, video games, and comic books, the franchise can also boast incredible continuity over the years. Now, that continuity is about to get bigger with a new show.
Several months after the latest Power Rangers film, Netflix is set to release a new television series set in the same universe. Ahead of the show's premiere later this month, Netflix has finally released its first trailer and provided a sneak peek into what to expect.
The trailer opens with a scene of four Rangers – Amelia, Javi, Izzy, and Aiyon – as they transform into their individual superhero forms to test their new powers. The trailer then cuts to battle scenes, several of them, where the sentai team put their fighting skills to the test and punch their way through all kinds of colorful and wacky villains.
Ardent fans of the show will notice that the team is missing two Rangers: Zayto and Ollie. Not to worry, the two characters are also present in these series. In fact, we catch glimpses of them in action during the course of the short trailer.
Based on what we could glean from the trailer, Zayto is now a Ghost Ranger and the Zenith Ranger. He currently wields the staff of a Morphin Master, which makes him more powerful than he's ever been. It, however, remains uncertain if he actually is a Morphin Master or not.
Ollie, on the other hand, is once again under the influence of Lord Zedd and now works hand-in-hand with the evil master and his cronies. It remains to be seen whether the influence is reversible or permanent - though it rarely is.
The show's official description provides more context. It reads, "Lord Zedd has escaped, and this time his rampage extends to the farthest reaches of space! The Rangers need to find new Zords and new powers to face Zedd's latest threat, and they won't do so alone."
It continues, "Joined by some familiar faces, they will discover the power of the Cosmic Orbs and become the Cosmic Fury Rangers, armed with new uniforms, new weapons, and an entire new fleet of Zords! Go, go, Power Rangers!"
Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury is more or less a sequel to Power Rangers Dino Fury seasons one and two. The show features many cast members from that series, as well as some new ones. Some of the cast members are Russell Curry, Hunter Deno, Kai Moya, Tessa Rao, Chance Perez, Jordon Fite, and Jacqueline Joe, among others.
Charlie Haskell and Michael Hurst helm the series, while Becca Barnes and Alwyn Dale produced it. Simon Bennett, Oliver Dumont, Kari Rosenberg, Randi Yaffa, and Haim Saban served as executive producers.
Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will arrive on Netflix on September 29.
