Mortal Kombat 1 has managed to carve out a niche for itself, especially among Nintendo Switch owners. However, it’s no secret that its initial launch on the platform was less than stellar. But, as the saying goes, “better late than never,” which explains NetherRealm Studios latest update.
Following Mortal Kombat 1’s woes on the Switch, the game’s director, Ed Boon, assured fans that an update was indeed on the horizon to address the prevalent issues on this hybrid platform. True to his word, the update has now been rolled out, and it’s packed with a plethora of improvements.
The October 11 update brings a myriad of changes to the Nintendo version of the game. From balance tweaks to visual enhancements, the update promises to elevate the gaming experience for Switch users. Here’s a snapshot of what’s new:
General Updates
- Season 1 of Invasions
- Gameplay balance changes
- Leaderboard fixes
- Visual improvements and general bug fixes
- Performance improvements
- Loading time improvements
- Stability fixes
- Localization fixes
Moving away from the Switch improvements, there have been whispers of a big MK1 reveal slated for the New York Comic Con 2023, which is taking place from October 12 to October 15. While Ed Boon has seemingly dismissed the possibility of an OmniMan gameplay trailer, fans are hopeful that there might be another surprise in store.
There has been some speculation about a new Kameo fighter or updates on Krossplay, which was expected to roll out post-launch. However, given the NYCC audience, these might not be the most fitting reveals. A more plausible expectation could be a new costume pack, perhaps something akin to the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage.
Although characters like Peacemaker, Homelander, Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda are part of MK1’s first Kombat Pack DLC, showcasing them before Omni-Man doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially when we consider Warner Bros. Games previous promo trailers.
In addition to this, a MK1 tournament has been confirmed for NYCC on October 14, but there has been no official word on a NetherRealm Studios panel or any Mortal Kombat-related guests. This has inevitably left fans in a state of suspense, wondering where or when a potential reveal might occur.
In any event, if we’ve learned anything from the previous Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay reveals, it’s that we’re in for a pleasant surprise.
