Baccarin appears to be teasing a superpowered role in the threequel, which is currently in the process of filming.

Morena Baccarin confirms her return in Deadpool 3 in a new interview.

There have been a lot of rumors about Morena Baccarin’s return to the Deadpool franchise after being part of the first two movies. After months of speculation, we now have confirmation from the actress that she is reprising the role of Wade Wilson’s wife and teased the possibility of suiting up as a superhero.

Baccarin’s casting in the upcoming threequel has been discussed as early as April. However, with so many casting rumors for Deadpool 3, Marvel hasn’t actually confirmed her participation in the film. The actress has previously hinted at the possibility of returning thanks to Wade’s time-traveling shenanigans at the end of Deadpool 2 thanks to Cable’s device.

In an interview with ComicBookMovie.com’s Josh Wilding on his podcast, Baccarin confirms that she is returning as Vanessa for Deadpool 3. The actress also revealed that she has finished filming her scenes for the movie which may indicate that she has a shorter role in the upcoming MCU film.

“It did work out,” Baccarin said of her role in Deadpool 3. “I finished my shooting days on it already, I think filming is back on again after the strike, and I think it’s going to be quite good! I think fans are in for a fun surprise.”

Recently, it has been confirmed that the TVA will be part of Deadpool 3 after one of the Minutemen was spotted during filming. There is a theory that the Time Variance Authority may be out to arrest Wade Wilson before he can completely change Vanessa’s fate in the movie. Deadpool may fail at the task of saving his wife which may lead to Vanessa having a shorter role in the movie. The actress hinted in the interview that she finished filming before the movie went on pause because of the actors’ strike, suggesting a minor role in the upcoming threequel.

Despite the fan theories about Vanessa’s fate in the upcoming movie, Baccarin also hinted at the possibility of suiting up as a superhero in the MCU. Vanessa Carlysle is the alter ego of Copycat, a mutant with shape-shifting abilities and a member of the X-Men. The actress teased that it may be time to portray the mutant but tempered expectations of fans.

“I think yes,” Baccarin said of the possibility of suiting up as Copycat. “But, I think she’s also competing with a very large universe.”

In the comic books, Deadpool and Copycat worked together as members of X-Force and became a couple. Interestingly, Sabertooth is also part of Deadpool 3 and the villain killed Copycat in the comic books. Perhaps it is the surprise that Baccarin was hinting at during the interview which will be a huge plot twist. It is possible that Wade already brought back Vanessa after Deadpool 2 and was then killed by Sabertooth, necessitating another time-travelling adventure but this time with the interference of the TVA. It is all just speculation but it could very well be the direction that Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy are aiming for.

Deadpool 3 is coming to theaters on July 26, 2024.
