They say that when you can’t beat them, you should just join them. In Microsoft’s case, the tech giant isn’t afraid to lean into the jokes and memes by releasing actual parody-inspired appliances based on their consoles. After the success of the Xbox Fridge, it’s now selling the Xbox toaster.
Launched with minimal fanfare, the Xbox Series S toaster, born from the internet’s twisted sense of humor about how, in certain angles, the more economically priced console looks like a toaster, has finally hit the storeshelves of Walmart.
Starting on January 3, interested fans with an extra $39.99 can enjoy toasting bread, English muffins, frozen waffles, and bagels, featuring settings for varying degrees of toastiness, from light to well-done, in appliance that’s been criticized as much as it’s been made fun of in recent years.
What sets this toaster apart from conventional models is the Xbox sphere logo it imprints onto your breakfast items. In a way, it’s a steal if you’re a huge fan of the brand. As a bonus, it boasts a digital LED countdown timer, adding a touch of practicality by eliminating the surprise of popping toast. This fun and functional gadget follows Microsoft’s trend of materializing memes, recalling the releases of the Xbox Series X mini fridge and a Minecraft Creeper Mini Fridge.
Microsoft’s Xbox Series S toaster isn’t the first gaming-related toaster. Razer previously teased a gaming toaster, Project BreadWinner, announced in 2019 but never released.
The Xbox Series S toaster marks a new addition to Microsoft’s line of gaming-themed appliances, which began with the Xbox Series X mini fridge, launched at $100. This fridge was later followed by a smaller version, with a capacity of 8 cans compared to the original 12.
The Xbox Series X Mini Fridge, besides cooling your drinks, also features a 5V 2.1A USB port and can be plugged into AC wall outlets or DC 12V automobile jacks. Measuring 14.4″ tall x 7.3″ wide x 7.3″ deep, it brings a unique gaming flair to any setting.
Returning to the toaster, its design mimics the Xbox Series S, complete with the console’s recognizable black air vent. It includes six levels of browning, a removable crumb tray, LED countdown, and a defrost button. However, as we’ve said, the most appealing aspect for gamers is undoubtedly the ability to have the Xbox logo toasted onto their bread.
The Xbox Series S toaster and the mini fridge are the latest in Microsoft’s line of gaming-themed kitchen appliances. It remains unclear if more are coming, but don’t be surprised if Xbox has something else up its sleeves. We can imagine if Microsoft went all in on the meme (or is it “all meme”?) and started releasing Xbox-themed microwaves, kettles, and washing machines, all designed to appeal to the dedicated Xbox fan base.
The Xbox Series S toaster, with its innovative design and gaming-themed twist, is more than just a novelty item; it’s a statement piece for gamers and a testament to Microsoft’s creative approach to product development.
If nothing else, it’s Xbox’s way of standing out against its best-selling competition, specifically, the PlayStation, which is severely lacking in terms of customization options.
Speaking of the Xbox, Microsoft apparently has a big roadmap planned for its ninth-generation console. Finally, Game Pass, which added significant value to subscribers last year, is starting the year off with an excellent lineup of titles.
