Never one to buck trends and go against the grain, the long-rumored Xbox price hike is official. The worst part? Microsoft hasn't even acquired Activision Blizzard yet.

As the tech giant wrestles against government regulators as it plans to buy Activision Blizzard, Microsoft isn't about to curry favor among fans by announcing its plans to increase prices for the Xbox Series X console and the Game Pass subscription. The price hike will be implemented in most countries to reflect rates in each market.

The company will raise the price for its flagship Xbox Series X in August in most countries excluding the US, Japan, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia as well as the prices for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass for consoles next month.

"We've held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market," Kari Perez, head of communications for Xbox, said in a statement to The Verge.
