Microsoft is planning to introduce Platinum Achievements for Xbox

Xbox's Achievements don't have the same appeal as a PlayStation's Platinum trophy for a game like Max Payne 3.

Most gamers will agree that nothing makes the thrill of victory better than the sweet sound of an achievement or the trophy you’ve been wanting to achieve finally unlocking. While both the Xbox and the PlayStation have their versions of this feature, it seems like Microsoft is apparently feeling a bit envious of PlayStation’s shiny Platinum trophies.

As per Twisted Voxel, Jez Corden, co-host of the Xbox Two podcast, “confirmed” that Microsoft is looking for a way to introduce trophy-like Platinum Achievements to the Xbox platform.

The unnamed executive hinted at a revamp of the achievements system, with Platinum achievements being part of the grand plan. However, as with all things corporate, it’s a matter of priorities and time. So, while we might be seeing these Platinum Achievements sometime in the future, don’t hold your breath.

Microsoft has kept mum about this new development, but according to a Reddit user, there’s some chatter about an internal survey delving into Xbox’s future achievement system. The proposed tiers include Bronze, Silver, Gold, and either Amethyst or Emerald, with these last two being likened to PlayStation’s Platinum trophy.

Achievements in games are like those little gold stars you got as a kid in school. They motivate players to go beyond just finishing the game, challenging them to discover hidden levels, complete specific tasks, or even play the game in a particularly challenging manner or mode. While these achievements don’t necessarily give you any in-game advantages, they sure boost your online bragging rights.

In the grand scheme of things, this move by Microsoft is more than just adding a shiny new badge. It’s about leveling the playing field with its competitors. With gaming achievements being showcased on players’ online profiles across various platforms, it’s high time Xbox players got their own version of the Platinum trophy to prove that a player has indeed completed a particular game.
