In 2018, Nintendo announced that it will collaborate with Illumination and Universal to produce a Super Mario Bros. movie. However, apart from announcing the animated movie's cast and releasing a teaser poster, the company has largely kept details about the movie under wraps.

As a result, the Nintendo Direct event scheduled to take place later this week is something fans of the Super Mario franchise are eagerly looking forward to, especially since it will focus on the Super Mario Bros. movie.

Before then, however, a McDonald's employee might have provided the first look at what the Mario character will look like in the movie.

The leaker initially posted the image to Discord after which the streamer, ConnorEatsPants, uploaded the same image to his Twitter account where it soon went viral among fans of the franchise. The Discord poster claims that the popular fast-food franchise has promotional material in anticipation of the movie's first trailer, which Nintendo plans to release later this week at the Nintendo Direct event.

While Mario's image in the picture seems in line with that of the character in recent games, there were certain discrepancies and viewers were quick to point them out. The alleged animated Mario's design has a collar, fuller cheeks, buttoned shirt, more realistic arms, and a highly detailed moustache.
