This just in: reviewers can’t seem to stop themselves from leaking information online.
As if paid (rather cheaply, if we may add) by John Jonah Jameson Jr. himself, reviewers, who received a chance to jump into the suits and web-sling all over Queens and Brooklyn early as either Miles Morales or Peter Parker, can’t be trusted to keep any info to themselves, at least until the review embargo lifts.
Several reviewers online, both named and/or anonymous, have shared the main menu screen of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the internet is awfully quiet about it.
Just a few weeks back, Starfield found itself unfairly targeted because of what many described as a blatant lack of effort for the start screen of what’s effectively the biggest exclusive to hit the Xbox Series S/X thus far. Bethesda Game Studios tried to defend itself but that didn’t stop critics from bashing a seemingly inconsequential part of the game. So, imagine the surprise when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which apparently has a similarly simple start screen, isn’t getting as much hate.
Similar to Starfield, the start screen of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 doesn’t seem like it has too much going on, unlike both of its predecessors.
Many had expected Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to take full advantage of the proprietary SSD of the PlayStation 5 and use the kind of dynamic start screen that would bypass the need for loading screens and drop you straight into action. Alas, this doesn’t seem to be the case, or is it?
Apparently, while the start screen of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks awfully simple, there’s a catch. According to subsequent leaks, the image changes depending on your progress through the story. It’s unclear yet just how much it will change throughout the entire campaign – don’t forget, people only got their hands on their copies. But, it’s believed that your progress will affect the image shown in the main menu. For example, when you start up the game, it will show you the tank with the Symbiote inside. Then, later on, as you progress, it will show the Symbiote no longer being inside the tube.
So, while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s main menu may look fairly simple at first glance, there’s more to the screen than meets the eye.
Of course, with this much information leaking online already just based on the main menu, you can only imagine how much more of the story will be spoiled for you if you’re not careful. So, we recommend that you temporarily stay away from social media for the next couple of weeks if you don’t want to know more about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 than you’d like.
In the meantime, you can celebrate the fact that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has gone gold, so there’s no way it won’t come out on October 20 at this point.
