The popular Marvel-themed board game by Ravensburger, Marvel Villainous, has a new expansion titled Marvel Villainous: Twisted Ambitions.
The expandalone game will add three new villains to the game: Kang the Conqueror, Titania, and Doctor Octopus. Each of the villains of this expansion is suitable for use on their own or in conjunction with villains from the other versions of the Marvel Villainous series, including the base game Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power and the two existing expansion packs Marvel Villainous: We Are Venom and Marvel Villainous: Mischief & Malice.
Mike Mulvihill, the game producer at Ravensburger North America, told Marvel’s Culture & Lifestyle team that they chose these particular three villains because they are very compelling and will help add new layers of interactivity to the Marvel Villainous games. He revealed that even though each villain has a different focus, they are a perfect fit into the Marvel Villainous world they have created.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Mulvihill lauded Marvel Villainous as their most competitive game given that every hero in the Marvel Universe has battled against every villain. In his words, “Marvel is our most competitive version. In the Marvel Universe, every Hero has fights with every Villain. We could not, nor would we want, to limit that – so things like the Common Fate deck and the heavy use of Villains messing with each other – make Marvel Villainous much more aggressive and interactive, which adds more complexity.”
Similar to other Marvel Villainous titles, the villains of Twisted Ambitions have different conditions the player must fulfill to win. For Doctor Octopus, the player must accomplish five Schemes, which include besting Spider-Man and amassing Power, among other things. To win as Titania requires players to amass Strength and vanquish She-Hulk. Finally, players who choose Kang the Conqueror must sneak Variants of the new Marvel big bad into decks of other Villains with the goal being to conquer four locations in these Villains Domains with Robot Duplicates.
What’s more? Marvel Villainous: Twisted Ambitions has only one Fate deck for all participants, like previous versions of the Marvel Villainous series. The expansion’s Fate deck is themed around Spider-Man and New York, which all of the Villains are linked to in one way or the other. To make the game fun and interactive, the Fate deck will feature some Spider-Verse heroes that have never been seen.
Players can choose from three difficulty levels in Marvel Villainous: Twisted Ambitions based on skill set and comfort.
Marvel Villainous: Twisted Ambitions will hit shelves sometime in March for the sum of $29.99. However, the game will be available for pre-order on Target and Amazon from February 3rd with the Target edition also having the exclusive chrome Doctor Octopus mover.
