'M3GAN' writer hopes the uncut ”way gorier” version gets published

In a recent sitdown with LA Times, Cooper hinted at the possibility that a more gruesome version of the film could see daylight soon. Wan's collaborator on Malignant and The Nun 2 explained the studio's reasoning behind the PG-13 rating that ended up withholding all of the blood and gore she had written for the killer AI companion doll: No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it. Director Gerard Johnstone also chipped in saying that the changes for the film to fit under the PG-13 rating resulted in a more intuitive viewing experience: Making it PG-13 was something that happened after the fact, but it was always so close to PG-13 anyway, It seemed kind of a mistake not to embrace it. I even remember thinking early on, 'This could be PG-13, and some of my favorite films like Drag Me to Hell are PG-13.' So we made the decision to go PG-13 and actually reshot a couple of things. What I was really stoked about is that when we reshot those scenes, they were more effective. With the dance scene in the official trailer going viral, the film's promotional campaign got a big boost. When the younger generations got a whiff of it, a decrease in violence to suit the PG-13 rating was only reasonable, making the movie suitable for a much younger audience of the genre.

Universal and Blumhouse's M3GAN features Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady, Gemma's orphaned niece, and Amie Donald as M3GAN, with Jenna Davis voicing the titular robot killer.

Given M3GAN's success and the resurgence in the popularity of Chuckie, we wouldn't be surprised if those crossover talks last year came true.
