Ahsoka Renewed For Season 2, Fans Await Answers From Season 1 Cliffhanger

Unfortunately, the next season of Ahsoka isn't expected to start production, let alone premiere, anytime soon.

It's a shame that Ray Stevenson, the actor who portrayed Baylan Skoll, passed away before the premiere of Ahsoka Season 1.

After a successful solo run last year, Lucasfilm has confirmed that Rosario Dawson and Ahsoka, alongside the rest of the returning and newly introduced characters, will return for a follow-up season of her self-titled show.

This exciting announcement was somewhat overshadowed (perhaps on purpose?) by the revelation of Jon Favreau’s Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, but it remains, nevertheless, a significant development for the Star Wars universe.

The confirmation comes after the first season of Ahsoka ended on a cliffhanger. The storyline involved characters such as Sabine and Ahsoka being stranded on Peridea after helping Ezra escape from there, while Baylan Skoll embarked on a brand new mission as Grand Admiral Thrawn sets out to wreak havoc throughout the galaxy.

The character of Ahsoka Tano, portrayed by Rosario Dawson, has become a beloved figure in the Star Wars franchise. She’s a unique character whose journey, which was initially explored in animated series like The Clone Wars and Rebels, evolved to become a major part of the larger Star Wars universe. The first season saw Ahsoka and her allies traversing new and relatively unexplored galaxies and encountering the World Between Worlds, adding depth and complexity to the Star Wars narrative. Finally, for long-time fans, it fulfilled the relationship between her and Anakin Skywalker, even bringing back Hayden Christensen to portray the fallen Jedi Knight.

Dave Filoni, known for his deep involvement in Star Wars storytelling, is at the helm of developing the second season. This move aligns with Filoni’s recent promotion to chief creative officer at Lucasfilm. His vision for the series, especially his expertise in Star Wars lore and character development, is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming season.

While the release date and production schedule for Ahsoka Season 2 isn’t confirmed yet, speculation suggests it might arrive after The Mandalorian movie, potentially in late 2025 or 2026. This timeline is influenced by other upcoming Star Wars shows like The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, as well as the ongoing post-production of Andor season 2.

It's unclear if Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka Season 2.

The conclusion of Ahsoka Season 1 left many questions unanswered, particularly regarding the roles of Ezra and Thrawn in the First Order’s rise and how Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra fit into the larger narrative, especially since some of them are now trapped on a distant planet.

The Star Wars live-action series regularly feature crossovers between shows, with characters making appearances throughout the universe. This connected storytelling means we could very well see Ahsoka or other characters from her series in other Star Wars projects before the show returns for Season 2.

Ultimately, the confirmation of a new season of Ahsoka is a promising development for Star Wars enthusiasts looking forward to more stories set in the galaxy far, far away.
