We got the first season of Loki in 2021 and it quickly became a fan-favorite. As of last May, it had become the most-watched Marvel Studios TV series on Disney+. Loki also impressed critics enough to score a 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating and won several awards. Naturally, it got a second season - and an expensive one, at that.
Marvel Studios has been working on a second season of Loki for the better part of the past two years. A week ago, the studio released its first trailer and also announced that it will premiere on October 6. A few days later, the series demonstrated its popularity by amassing the most views ever for the online trailer of a Disney Plus series.
Now, we have even more information about the highly anticipated television series thanks to a Forbes report. According to the outlet, Loki Season 2 cost Disney a hefty sum of $141.3 million. For context, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, one of the most successful films so far this year, cost $100 million, Creed III cost $75 million, and John Wick 4 cost $100 million.
What's more? Loki Season 2's budget of $141.3 million is the cost incurred on pre-production and filming alone. That means that the film's cost will still rise once the cost of post-production is added.
