We got the first season of Loki in 2021 and it quickly became a fan-favorite. As of last May, it had become the most-watched Marvel Studios TV series on Disney+. Loki also impressed critics enough to score a 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating and won several awards. Naturally, it got a second season – and an expensive one, at that.

Marvel Studios has been working on a second season of Loki for the better part of the past two years. A week ago, the studio released its first trailer and also announced that it will premiere on October 6. A few days later, the series demonstrated its popularity by amassing the most views ever for the online trailer of a Disney Plus series.

Now, we have even more information about the highly anticipated television series thanks to a Forbes report. According to the outlet, Loki Season 2 cost Disney a hefty sum of $141.3 million. For context, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, one of the most successful films so far this year, cost $100 million, Creed III cost $75 million, and John Wick 4 cost $100 million.

What’s more? Loki Season 2’s budget of $141.3 million is the cost incurred on pre-production and filming alone. That means that the film’s cost will still rise once the cost of post-production is added.

Loki Season 2 will have six episodes, like the first season. The series is part of Phase 5 of the MCU and will follow Loki and Mobius M. Mobius on a mission to save the universe from impending doom.

The trailer teases a showdown between Loki, Mobius, and their team on one side, and a Kang the Conqueror variant on the other side. Given the high stakes and the fact that the fate of the galaxy is in the balance, we certainly hope that Loki, despite his many flaws, wins this battle.

If the trailer is anything to go by, Loki Season 2 will be equally as breathtaking as the first. It sees our characters shuffle between the past and the present and take on a foe that sees even the god of mischief need motivation from his human partner.

Loki Season 2 will see the titular character and friends take on a Kang the Conqueror variant.

The show’s huge budget is a sign of the company’s high hopes for the show. Given its recent failures, Marvel Studios is hoping the series attracts many viewers and glues eyes to television screens and mobile devices when it premieres.

Loki Season 2 sees Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Jonathan Majors, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Tara Strong, and Wunmi Mosaku reprise their roles from the first season. Ke Huy Quan, who you will remember for his Academy Award-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, will also star in the series.

Loki Season 2 will debut on Disney Plus on October 6.
