It was an immediate critical and commercial success, helping launch the House of Mouse into what many refer to as the Disney Renaissance era. Since then, the film has seen a successful stage adaptation and live musical presentation, with two direct-to-video sequels and an animated series that ran for 31 episodes.
Surprisingly enough, it's taken Disney nearly three decades to announce a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. A little over half a decade since it was first announced, Disney has finally given the Halle Bailey-led remake a release date.
When is The Little Mermaid remake going to premiere?
According to a report from THR, The Little Mermaid is going to premiere on May 26, 2023. The announcement comes as part of a larger roadmap that includes at least four unnamed Marvel Studios films in 2024, as well as two other unannounced Pixar features.
