Leaker has bad news for the Persona 3 Reload Switch port

Contrary to other rumors, one insider claims that Persona 3 Reload isn't coming to Nintendo's uber-popular hybrid platform.

Atlus probably doesn't want to cannibalize the sales of Persona 3 Portable that's presumably massive on the Nintendo Switch.

For fans of the Persona franchise, the recent announcement of Persona 3 Reload at the Xbox Games Showcase was a joyous moment. Atlus, the game’s developer, unveiled the revamped version of the beloved title, promising updated graphics and enhanced gameplay as well as a deeper voice-acting experience. Unfortunately, this joy has been tainted for a significant number of players, specifically those on the Nintendo Switch platform.

The news of Persona 3 Reload not being available on the second-best-selling console of all time has stirred up frustration in the community. This disheartening revelation was first brought to light by a notable leaker who, despite initially discovering and disclosing the game’s existence, confirmed the unfortunate reality after reaching out to Atlus.

Atlus’s response was clear: there was no publishing deal for a Switch version of Persona 3 Reload, implying that a Switch version isn’t coming, at least not at launch. While it’s conceivable that a Switch version could happen in the future, there’s currently no plan in place.

If we’re being honest, Persona 3 Portable is the “better” version of the two but Persona 3 Reload might have an edge when it comes to visuals.

At the very least, it’s perplexing why Persona 3 Reload will not be available for the console, at least for now.

The original Persona 3 game was a major hit on the PlayStation 2 and it later received an enhanced version for the fan-favourite console, the PlayStation Portable, which many consider as the “superior” version. Both versions captivated players with their unique and suspenseful storylines, where characters navigate an eerie dimension filled with ominous shadows. These elements continue to make “Persona 3” a game worth playing today.

With the remake, it’s possible that Atlus is testing new gameplay mechanics and graphics, and the processing load may be more demanding than the Switch can handle. However, there’s a glimmer of hope for those yearning for a Switch port. The latest mainline entry, Persona 5, was successfully ported to the Nintendo Switch years after its initial console release, so there is precedent for this hope.

In the meantime, Nintendo Switch players have alternatives to satiate their Persona cravings by playing Persona 3 Portable, which is available for $19.99. Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal, both hailed as the definitive editions of their respective games, are available on the Switch as well.

The Persona series is low-key one of the best and longest-running JRPG franchises.

Despite the initial disappointment, Persona 3 Reload remains one of the most anticipated JRPG releases. It’s a nostalgic trip for long-time Persona fans while appealing to newcomers with its upgraded aesthetics and gameplay.

While it may not launch on all desired platforms, fans can keep the flame of hope alive for a future port, and in the interim, enjoy the rich Persona universe available on the Nintendo Switch.
