Leaked Justice League Mortal cancelled video game art

Jonathan Gwyn states he was the art director and primary artist of the team that was working on this video game. According to Gwyn:

I was the Art Director and a main-level artist on this game which was built to coincide with the Justice League movie by George Miller. The movie was eventually canceled along with the game which is unfortunate since it was fairly far along in development.

The leaked concept art does not reveal much about the plot or the gameplay, but they do give some bits of insight into the production. While video game tie-ins often take liberties of their own, the Justice League: Mortal concept art gives a better look of the costumes and locations that might have appeared in the film if the project was not cancelled.

Interestingly, there does seem to be some similarities to a game that was actually released based on the Justice League. Titled Justice League Heroes, the game came out in 2006 for the Microsoft Xbox and Sony Playstation 2. It was a superhero multiplayer action RPG, similar to Marvel's own X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The main difference is that Justice League Heroes was based on the DC Comics continuity at the time.

But Justice League: Mortal is not the first video game based on DC Comics properties to meet the chopping block even before it gets released. Or in some cases like the Infinite Crisis MOBA, the game fails to be successful enough to move forward beyond a few months.

Sadly, the Justice League: Mortal movie and tie-in video game are now just one more piece of lost media, with only hints and speculation of what it could potentially have been. After the Justice League: Mortal was shelved, the DCEU began in earnest with 2013's Man of Steel, although even that will soon be supplanted by DC Studios Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe.

And despite Justice League: Mortal failing to take off, actors Adam Brody and D.J. Cotrona did become part of the live-action DC Extended Universe as members of the Shazam family. They will reprise their roles again in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which will be released in regular theaters and IMAX on March 17, 2023.
