Sony's Spider-Man Universe, otherwise known as the SSU, should have already launched years ago. Sony initially intended to use 2014's Amazing Spider-Man 2 to springboard several spin-offs based on Spider-Man-related properties. Unfortunately, this never came to fruition, and it took until 2018's Venom to make Sony reconsider kickstarting the said cinematic universe.
After the success of 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage, there appears to be no stopping Sony from launching the SSU. More importantly, if Morbius' latest trailer is to go by, the SSU is going to have connections with the MCU and Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy.
Connections abound in horrifying Morbius trailer
The three-minute trailer for the upcoming SSU film, Morbius, gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from one of the comic book superhero movies with significant horror roots. The trailer was also full of references to the MCU and other Spider-Man-related villains, including Michael Morbius mentioning Venom right near the end of the video, and a Daily Bugle newspaper mentioning Black Cat and Rhino, among others.
