Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, has revealed the status of the Avengers and confirmed that the greatest superhero team ever assembled in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now inactive. Marvel's boss made this revelation while speaking at the D23 Expo, a biennial event hosted by Disney's official fan club, last Saturday. He added that a new team, the Thunderbolts, will fill the vacuum left behind.
In Avengers: Endgame, Marvel resolved the arc of several of the primary characters, including Captain America, Black Widow, and Iron Man, after the epic battle with the mega-villain: Thanos. While many fans of the franchise have speculated that the events of that movie marked the end of the Avengers as a team, the company had never deigned to confirm or refute the talk, until now.
Nevertheless, Kevin Feige's comments raise more questions about the future of the Avengers, especially since Marvel Studios has two Avengers-titled movies on its roster. The two movies, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, are scheduled for 2025 releases. They will conclude the MCU's Multiverse Saga, which comprises the ongoing Phase Four of the franchise, and the upcoming Phase Five and Phase Six. With Kevin's comments, fans are left to wonder whether these titles will reveal the assembling of a new Avengers team or something else.
