Ever since the series' soft reboot in 2011's Mortal Kombat 9, NetherRealm Studios has added pop culture icons as DLC fighters.

The earliest crossovers for the controversial video games involved The Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Kreuger and God of War's Kratos. Eventually, other iconic characters followed such as Friday the 13th's Jason Vorhees along with Aliens' Xenomorphs and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. NetherRealm then dialed things up a notch in Mortal Kombat 11, adding several more guest appearances from characters such as RoboCop, Rambo, The Joker, The Terminator, and more.
