The enchanting world of Arendelle is set to captivate audiences once again. Disney has officially confirmed not just one, but two sequels to the billion-dollar franchise. During a recent interview with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Frozen 4 is currently in development, alongside the previously announced Frozen 3.
While Iger didn’t divulge further details, the announcement has sparked anticipation among fans eagerly awaiting the next chapters in the Frozen saga.
In his response, Iger confirmed that not only is Frozen 3 in development but there will be a fourth installment as well. He revealed that Jennifer Lee, who created the original Frozen and Frozen II, “is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.” He refused to say beyond that, though, which only served to heighten fan anticipation.
Iger was in Hong Kong to attend the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Disneyland’s latest attraction, World of Frozen, when he made this revelation. The themed park will allow fans to experience the beloved animated musical fantasy by walking the streets of Arendelle, dining at the magical city’s restaurants, and meeting their favorite characters Elsa, Anna, and Olaf.
With the success of the first Frozen grossing $1.33 billion in 2013 and Frozen II becoming the highest-grossing animated film with $1.45 billion, it’s clear that the franchise holds a special place in the hearts of audiences.
Despite the undeniable success of these films, Disney has taken its time expanding the franchise. However, with the promise of not just one but two new Frozen installments, fans are likely to overlook the delay and eagerly anticipate the upcoming releases.
In addition to the Frozen franchise, Disney is also set to expand the Zootopia and Toy Story series. This strategic move to revisit established, successful franchises aligns with Disney’s efforts to regain momentum after recent animated releases faced challenges. The upcoming release of Inside Out 2 next June, with its record-breaking trailer views, is hopefully the start of a return to form for the company.
Disney will be hoping to recreate the performances of the first two Frozen films with the upcoming third and fourth installments. Given the enthusiasm fans have shown since the films were announced, there is a high likelihood that the company will get its wish.
While details about the cast of the new Frozen films are yet to be revealed, expectations are high for the return of major actors Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad, who portray Elsa, Anna, Sven, and Olaf, respectively. Not only that, but Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who penned the songs for the first two Frozen movies, including the award-winning Let It Go, will return for the two sequels.
As both films are still in the early stages of development, no official release dates have been announced. For now, fans can relive the magic of the first two Frozen films on Disney Plus.
