John Marston voice actor thinks Red Dead Redemption remake “would be awesome”

Rob Wiethoff is open to working with Rockstar Games again in a potential remake of the 2010 game.

If we're being honest, we'd settle for a PC port of Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar Games reportedly passed up on the chance to work on a Red Dead Redemption remaster or remake to focus on Grand Theft Auto VI, which is a shame as John Marston’s voice actor, Rob Wiethoff, would’ve been all in on a return to his iconic role.

Wiethoff was with Dan Allen Gaming where the interviewer asked him about the rumors of a potential re-do of the first game. Asked if the actor ever thought the remake would happen, Wiethoff responded positively, saying “I would love for it to happen.” Wiethoff says that he’d “love an opportunity” to team up with Rockstar Games again, saying that he “can’t really say enough good things about Rockstar.”

2010's Red Dead Redemption looks surprisingly good on the Xbox Series S/X for a decade-old game.

Unfortunately, while Wiethoff is on board, Rockstar isn’t. Instead, Rockstar is currently all in on GTA 6.

It’s easy to tell based on all the job listings and after the studio put Red Dead Online on the back burner. Besides, Take-Two Interactive wouldn’t just give GTA VI such high praise if it wasn’t confident that Rockstar is putting all of its resources to make sure that it lives up to expectations.

The good news is that Rockstar could always circle back on the canned GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remasters. Rockstar is also believed to have canceled work on Xbox Series S/X and PS5 versions of Red Dead Redemption 2. So, Rockstar has at least three big remasters or remakes waiting for it after GTA VI is out.

If it’s any consolation, the original Red Dead Redemption is available on the Xbox Series X via backward compatibility. It’s joined by several other games that don’t show their age if you play them on the flagship console by Microsoft.
