James Gunn teases that Adam Warlock is not a good guy in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

Recall that Rocket stole the Anulax Batteries from the Sovereign during the opening part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. The team had an extended space battle against the race of artificial beings before its entire drone army was wiped out by Peter Quill's dad Ego.

Gunn also shared his thought on casting Will Poulter for the role of Adam Warlock. The director also made some comments about the character's importance to the MCU.

People online were saying, 'Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock,'" Gunn said. "I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future … He could become this really important character."

Tom Cruise is way older than Will Poulter. The Mission: Impossible and Top Gun star just turned 60 last year. Poulter on the other hand is just 29 years old. Poulter may also fit the role better as he is a tall and imposing figure, standing 6'3 compared to Cruise who is just 5'7.

Based on Gunn's comments, we may see more of Adam Warlock in the future. He may be part of or lead a new team of Guardians in the MCU. The superhero has been a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the Marvel comic books. Kevin Feige and Marvel may already have plans for the future of Adam Warlock since the character was teased years ago.

Perhaps, we will also see more of Adam Warlock participate in the Multiverse Saga. While he may not be a hero in Guardians of the Galaxy, his powers may be of use against a threat like Kang the Conqueror.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is opening in theaters on May 5, 2023.
