DC Studios made a huge leap this week by casting David Corenswet as the next Superman. Now that DC has found its Clark Kent, many fans are asking when will Batman be cast.
Earlier this week, DC Studios announced that Corenswet alongside Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy. The movie is being written and will be directed by James Gunn and will be the first film in the new DC Universe.
Fans are now turning their attention to the casting of Bruce Wayne aka Batman for the new DCU. Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran announced earlier this year that Batman will be part of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters with the upcoming The Brave and the Bold movie.
Gunn recently answered a fan question on Instagram about the casting of Batman in the DCU. “How close are we to a casting for Batman?” a fan asked.
“Miles and miles away,” Gunn replied.
The Brave and the Bold is still some years away and it’s no surprise DC Studios is taking its time with the casting. Despite being announced as part of Chapter 1, the upcoming Batman movie still does not have a release date.
The Brave and the Bold already has a director in The Flash’s Andy Muschietti. However, the upcoming film has yet to hire a screenwriter. DC Studios cannot sign a screenwriter to the project while the Writers Guild of America strike is ongoing.
The development of the new Batman movie may also be delayed by a potential strike by the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
If the strike pushes through, it will be impossible for DC to cast an actor for the upcoming project. DC Studios may have to bide its time until the disputes blow over.
The Brave and the Bold will focus on Batman and Robin (Damian Wayne). Gunn and Safran have teased that the film will feature more characters from the Bat family.
“This is the introduction of the DCU’s Batman,” Gunn explained in an interview earlier this year. “This is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son who we didn’t know existed for the first eight to 10 years of his life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s a little son of a b*tch. He’s my favorite Robin. It’s based on the Grant Morrison comic book’s run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs, and we are putting that all together right now.”
And this is obviously a feature film, and it’s going to feature other members of the extended ‘Bat-family’, just because we feel like they’ve been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long,” Safran added.
