Is WWE planning a John Cena and Roman Reigns rematch for Crown Jewel?

John Cena was one of the first wrestling legends Roman Reigns defeated in the first year of his still-ongoing title reign.

John Cena has taken all comers since his return to the WWE and even a loss to Roman Reigns would be a great way to close the chapter on his most recent full-time run with WWE.

John Cena’s current and still-ongoing lengthy comeback to WWE has fans wondering constantly wondering one thing: what’s his outlook for the foreseeable future?

For now, Cena is in a program with LA Knight, helping this superstar’s ship take off by teaming up with him for Fastlane on October 7. But, it wasn’t that long ago that he feuded with Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2021.

The most interesting part is the conflicting reports about what the WWE has planned for the GOAT.

John Cena is 0-2 against Roman Reigns so far.

Keen-eyed observers have noticed WWE dropping hints that Cena is gunning for a third match against Reigns, but the Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that this isn’t happening, at least not at Crown Jewel in November. It’s interesting that this came after the same source noted that Roman Reigns vs John Cena III could happen in Saudi Arabia.

Both have been confirmed for Crown Jewel for quite some time, so rumors and speculations about a potential matchup between the GOAT and The Tribal Chief were always going to happen. For now, it appears that Reigns and Cena will contend with other people at a still-undisclosed venue on November 4.

The last time we saw Roman Reigns, he looked vulnerable and nearly lost to Jey Uso at SummerSlam. Just a PLE before, Cena surprised the London crowd to tease a potential WrestleMania event in the United Kingdom. Ever since then, both star’s appearances have been on the opposite end of the spectrum. Whereas Reigns have stayed off-screen, Cena has taken to wrestling full time again. It’s unclear how long Cena will continue to be a regular fixture on Friday Night SmackDown but it’s not the worst idea to pit him against a former rival in Reigns.

What are the chances that Cody Rhodes will appear at the end to resume his feud against Roman Reigns after Cena inevitably loses to The Tribal Chief for the third time.

Despite multiple WWE appearances under his belt, Cena hasn’t actually wrestled much lately. With three dark matches under his belt, audiences from home haven’t had a chance to watch the 16-time World Champion drop STFUs, Attitude Adjustments, and Five Knuckle Shuffles as often as they’d like. Who better to showcase the face of the WWE against than Reigns? If anything, isn’t this what all the kerfuffle against The Bloodline have been leading up to? Storyline-wise, it makes sense for Reigns to take issue with the Hollywood superstar when he inevitably comes back to SmackDown.

Interestingly enough, two names Cena has been attached to lately, LA Knight and AJ Styles, have been thrown around as potential title contenders at a future PLE, possibly Crown Jewel. Logan Paul, another name Cena was hinting at a potential match against earlier this year, also previously challenged for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship belt at last year’s Crown Jewel.

Most likely, if Cena’s schedule permits it, he’ll get the nod ahead of everyone else against Roman Reigns. Even though we’ve seen this play out twice before, the WWE putting Cena over is a well-known fact. He’ll ultimately lose, but it would be a great way to build up Reigns and make everyone acknowledge him again ahead of his match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
