It seems like the internet can’t get enough of Eve and the upcoming action RPG, Stellar Blade. Initially catching the eyes of many under its working title, Project Eve, the game has been highly anticipated since its initial announcement in 2019. Its blend of high-octane combat and a visually stunning sci-fi setting, reminiscent of games such as NieR Automata, has positioned it as a must-play title. However, as excitement builds towards its release on April 26, one question looms large: is Stellar Blade available on Xbox and PC?
The answer, if it wasn’t already obvious following the game’s re-reveal at the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase – you might remember it as the showcase bookended by the official God of War: Ragnarok reveal – is that it will be exclusive on the PlayStation 5.
This might come as a surprise to those who initially believed that Stellar Blade was not a PS5 exclusive title.
Stellar Blade was initially set for a multiplatform release for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. However, this has since changed. The game’s director, Kim Hyung tae, explained the reason behind this in an interview with Famitsu. He expressed a desire to release a top-tier game on one platform. After careful consideration, it chose the PS5 as its ideal candidate to host their ambitious project. For Kim, the choice wasn’t just because of the technical advantages either. Kim revealed that the PlayStation brand had played a big part of his life as a gamer and his career in video game development.
While Stellar Blade being a PS5 exclusive may disappoint fans hoping to play the game on Xbox or PC, it opens the door to a gaming experience that fully utilizes the flagship console’s capabilities. From the intricate combat system that requires mastery of both melee and ranged attacks to the epic boss battles that promise to challenge and delight players, Stellar Blade aims to immerse players in its rich, post-apocalyptic world. With Eve, the protagonist, players will embark on a mission to reclaim Earth, making strategic use of her arsenal and abilities to survive and thrive in the face of alien threats.
The gameplay, as per the leak, is influenced by titles like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, but with a more strategic, Souls-like approach to combat and a risque touch that hasn’t been seen in a mainstream title since NieR: Automata and Bayonetta 3.
As its release date approaches, hype continues to build for Stellar Blade, especially after the accidental “Skin Suit” reveal. While it may be a PS5 exclusive at launch, most remain hopeful that the future might bring the game to other platforms, especially following the earlier statements by Hiroki Totoki.
Until then, PlayStation 5 owners have an exciting new title to look forward to, one that promises to deliver a unique blend of action-packed gameplay and strategy.
