Lords of the Fallen has been moderately successful when it launched last week. While the game received mixed reviews at release, it seems that Hexworks and CI Games are looking to add more content for the ARPG.
A new rumor suggests Hexworks is already working on two expansions for Lords of the Fallen. The rumor was shared by user IcePopsicleDragon over on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit following its initial breakout on 4Chan by an anonymous user claiming claiming to be an outsourced developer for the game hired by Hexworks.
“The game has two large expansions planned, one focused on the dream realm called Morpheus and another one expanding the overall world with two rival kingdoms (this one still very early, and most is placeholder stuff),” the source said.
There is no additional information for the rumored expansions beyond what was shared by the 4chan post. It is also impossible to verify the claims as it was posted anonymously and we caution readers to take the information with a grain of salt.
The post did mention that CI Games and Hexworks see Lords of the Fallen as a rival to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. The best-selling Bandai Namco Souls-like and reigning Game of the Year will be getting an expansion in Shadow of the Erdtree next year. We can easily imagine that CI Games would want to follow the same formula with its own Souls-like and follow it up with an expansion or two.
Other interesting bits were shared by the leaker. The post reveals that the performance issues with Lords of the Fallen are due to the shift from Unreal Engine 4 to 5 in the middle of development. The rumor suggests that the development team was inexperienced with the most recent version of Epic’s game engine and a lot of features had to be “cut and downgraded, including slower, more fluid combat and graphics because the engine was just that demanding.”
The development team reportedly asked Hexworks for an additional year for development but the request was declined as the studio wanted to appease shareholders and did not want to risk releasing Lords of the Fallen close to Shadow of the Erdtree.
The studio is said to be working hard on fixes for the game and a lot of quality-of-life features are coming in the next months. A roadmap for the game’s future state will reportedly be shared on X soon.
If the rumors are true, it will be exciting to look out for more content coming to Lords of the Fallen. The game has shown flashes of brilliance during our playthrough and it will be interesting to see what Hexworks and CI Games have in store for players. Lords of the Fallen may not be a best-seller like Elden Ring, but it sure is a good and fun game to play.
