For as long as most people can remember, Superman has always been well, white. However, Warner Bros. wants to change this. According to Warner Bros. announcement earlier this year, a Black Superman film is in the works. Although this report sparked heated discussions and debates online, at the end of the day, it's up to Warner Bros. and DC to do what they want with their own IPs. However, it would be great if someone was all for a Black Superman, which is why Henry Cavill's recent endorsement feels like a big deal.
Cavill is in full support of a Black Superman
Earlier this year, DC confirmed that Star Wars' JJ Abrams is set to produce a Black Superman film. Naturally, this was met with some doubt by some of those in the fandom. It also didn't help that there was another set of reports a few months ago that Michael B. Jordan was working on a separate Black Superman project for HBO Max. Jordan's work makes sense considering that it will star Val-Zod, a different version of Superman from Earth-2. On the other hand, there are no details about Abrams' Superman film, which is why fans were worried that it might retcon and change Kal-El's skin color.
