Warner Bros. Discovery has released the first teaser trailer for the forthcoming fourth installment of its critically acclaimed anthology crime drama television series True Detective. The entertainment behemoth revealed the trailer on Wednesday, April 12, during the unveiling event for its new streaming service Max slated to launch on May 23.
The official synopsis for True Detective: Night Country reads, "When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."
True Detective: Night Country stars two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster and former boxer Kali Reis in the lead roles of Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro respectively. Other members of the cast include Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star Lablanc, Aka Niviâna, Anna Lambe, Joel D. Montgrand, Christopher Eccleston, and John Hawkes.
Mexican producer and director Issa López, best known for her work on the 2017 crime fantasy film Tigers Are Not Afraid, serves as season showrunner. Apart from her showrunning duty, López writes and directs all the show's episodes. She is also one of the executive producers, alongside Foster, Barry Jenkins, Harrelson, McConaughey, Pizzolatto, and several others.
