Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gets release date on Disney Plus

Marvel Studios has officially announced that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting August 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is either the best or the worst of the trilogy, depending on who you ask.

James Gunn might be off playing for the other team now, but he didn’t leave his Marvel fans hanging. In arguably his most heartwarming outing yet, Gunn saved the best for last as he directed and wrote Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Now, after a successful theatrical run, Peter Quill and the rest of the ragtag bunch of universe-saving team of heroes.

According to the House of Mouse, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be available to watch on its streaming platform next month, specifically on August 2.

Released in cinemas on May 5, the film soared at the box office, netting an impressive $800 million during its theatrical run. It’s no surprise that fans couldn’t get enough of the intergalactic rogues-turned-heroes. Marvel’s trilogy capper, which was the conclusion of director James Gunn’s vibrant and rollicking cosmic saga, has already been available to buy digitally since July 7. If physical copies are your preference, you can look forward to its Blu-ray release on August 1.

For the uninitiated, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 takes us on a heartrending journey into the backstory of Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper). The narrative propels the Guardians into a dangerous quest to save their furry friend’s life, who is severely wounded following an intense face-off against Adam Warlock (Will Poulter). As Rocket hovers between life and death, he revisits his tumultuous past through a series of poignant flashbacks, leading him to reassess the true essence of heroism.

The ensemble cast features Chris Pratt reprising his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, alongside Karen Gillan as Nebula and Dave Bautista as Drax as well as Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Zoe Saldana as Gamora. Other returning faces include Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha.

Critics have lauded the film as a “rousing, resonant conclusion” to the trilogy, praising Gunn’s dedication to the completing the narrative arc and character development, especially Rocket’s, who Chris Pratt commented has “been the heart of this group all along.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is James Gunn’s swan song for the MCU.

In spite of its success, some have criticized the film for its comedic elements and sentimental undertones, arguing that they occasionally detract from the film’s overall impact. However, these criticisms did little to sway audiences and detract from its blockbuster status.

As the story unfolds, expect to laugh, cheer, and perhaps even shed a tear.

So, if you’re a subscriber to Disney+, mark your calendars for August 2 to catch the Guardians in action one last time. For those still on the fence about a subscription, this is a great time to hop on board, especially with the entire trilogy soon to be available on the streaming service. Alternatively, you can purchase the film digitally or wait for the Blu-ray release if that suits your preference.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might be the last of the MCU’s heavy barrage of films post-Endgame as it settles down and focuses on quality over quantity.

In the UK, the film will be ready to stream from 8 a.m., UK time. For fans in the US, digital copies can be bought from Prime Video, iTunes, and Vudu. Pre-orders are also open for the DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD releases.

No matter which medium you prefer, one thing is certain: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a must-watch for fans of the franchise and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the trilogy’s end delivering a fitting closure to the Guardians’ journey, viewers are guaranteed a voyage that is every bit as heartrending as it is thrilling. Get ready to buckle up and blast off for the final time with the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a journey you won’t want to miss.

Speaking of Disney+, the company’s returning CEO, Bob Iger, recently extended his contract and criticized the streaming platform for taking away the studio’s focus on creating quality films. This comes months after Kevin Feige confirmed that it will start producing fewer shows and films to focus on quality following the disappointing theatrical outings of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Thor: Love and Thunder.
