The official release date for Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI has been revealed, alongside a gameplay trailer. Both have been making rounds on the internet over the past few years, presumably leaked online by someone who got their hands on an early copy of the trailer ahead of its official reveal.
We’re expecting the legal team over at Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive to work quickly to have the trailer scrubbed off the face of the internet, but if you don’t want the glorious glimpse at the next GTA game to be spoiled for you, we recommend going dark and staying away from the internet for the rest of the day.
As expected, the minute-and-a-half long trailer for GTA VI confirms plenty of things the internet has speculated about, including its setting, the dual protagonists, and when it’s coming out.

The leaked trailer, which features a huge watermark right in the middle, reveals the name of one of the protagonists as Lucia, confirming earlier rumors. Surprisingly enough, the “rumored” name of the other playable character, Jason, isn’t mentioned at all.
Rockstar appears to be leaning heavily towards using an in-universe version of the livestream features of popular social media platforms of today like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. It’s unclear if it’s just for the trailer or if Rockstar found a way to work this into the game somehow.
Finally, the leaked GTA VI trailer confirms that it will be set in the modern-day era, presumably some time in the 2020s, similar to Grand Theft Auto V.
The trailer ends by confirming that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming out at some point in 2025. This leads further weight to earlier leaks, including the most recent speculation that it could be released on April 1, 2025.
Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t clarify which platforms GTA VI will be available on at launch. But, if Rockstar is looking to sell as many copies as possible, it could do a simultaneous release on consoles and PC. Then again, judging by how a separate release on the PC helped it sustain its momentum in its first few years on the market before GTA Online blew up, it’s likely that Rockstar will stagger GTA VI’s launch as well. The way that it’s positioned, GTA VI could still be just as popular by the time the next generation of consoles rolls out, especially if Rockstar will be releasing post-launch DLCs.
Rockstar has yet to release an official statement addressing the leak. It’s scheduled to showcase GTA VI on December 5 at 9:00 AM EST.
