Warner Bros. is taking this Barbie frenzy a little too far by turning Godzilla's atomic breath pink!

All monster fans around the world, it’s time to stop arguing about who’s the bigger, badder colossus and unite in anticipation for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Warner Bros. Pictures has just released the first trailer for the MonsterVerse film that’s set to redefine what it means to be larger-than-life in the cinematic universe.

As we pick up where we left off in Godzilla vs. Kong, it now seems our favorite giants have called a truce. Godzilla, the King of the Monsters, and Kong, the protector of his domain, are teaming up because Warner Bros. is fresh out of ideas and this is the only logical step to take – that is, until we reach Godizilla xxx Kong and make furry artist profits skyrocket.

The world is under threat, as you do, from a new wave of MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms), a bunch of ugly, globe-trotting menaces that are huge (and loud) enough to attract the attention of Godzilla and Kong – who now has a robotic arm, for some reason.

The big bad of this story is the Scar King – a blast from Godzilla’s past. This ancient titan once ruled the Hollow Earth, but now he’s back with a vengeance. His thirst for power knows no bounds, and Godzilla, in a historic showdown centuries ago, managed to trap him in the Hollow Earth.

Like every other film in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will take a deep dive into the lore of these legendary titans, exploring their origins and the ancient battles that have shaped humanity’s destiny.

In the meantime, if you’re craving more MonsterVerse action, Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters should keep you nicely satiated. The 10-episode series has been commissioned by Legendary Pictures to bridge gaps that audiences may have noticed in the previous films in the franchise. Ironically, the show suffers from a lack of depth, the very element it was supposed to be rich with.

If the trailer serves as any indication, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire just might revolutionize Kaiju cinema as we know it. Sure, it might be visually entertaining for people who just want to see huge blobs of CGI beat the crap out of each other, but in a real sense, nostalgia will be the tune by which Warner Bros. will be hoping to make its money.

Either way, do not let us stop you from enjoying what is shaping up to be a year full of Godzilla thrills. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will stomp into theaters on April 12, 2024.
