Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment in the iconic fighting game franchise, has officially launched. And, while it's reviewing well, the intrigue around the game is fueled not just by its gameplay or roster of characters but also by the mystery surrounding its future content.
Developers at Netherrealm Studios have previously confirmed characters for the first Kombat Pack, which include a list of notable names such as Homelander from The Boys, DC's Peacemaker, and Omni-Man from Invincible. The selections hint at the studio's inclination towards including superheroes in the game's ever-expanding universe. However, recent data mining activities suggest there might be more on the horizon.
Players with a keen eye and knack for detective work have been delving into the game's dialogue files. Their findings? A handful of potential evidence pointing towards the inclusion of Ghostface, the iconic antagonist from the Scream movies.
Dialogue exchanges between characters like Omni-Man and Takeda have lines such as, "Takes more than a mask and a knife to scare me" and "A mask and a cloak don't scare me." While these lines could be interpreted in many ways, their correlation with Ghostface's characteristics - a masked villain with a knife - is hard to ignore. Another line from Omni-Man, "Fuck movies. Nothing beats a good book," seems like a cheeky nod to Ghostface, given the latter's obsession with horror movies.
