At long last, the third mainline installment in the long-running Ghostbusters franchise is finally here. The original Ghostbusters film premiered in 1984 and got a sequel just five years later. It's been more than three decades since and while there was an attempt to reboot the series back in 2016, it appears that the executives want to bring the franchise back to where it all began by introducing a new mix of characters alongside several of the original cast members.

To help celebrate the film's impending launch in theaters, Sony just dropped a new IMAX poster that shows the classic Ecto-1 vehicle and proton pack in all its former glory.

Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, has stepped in to direct the sequel to 1989's Ghostbusters II. The film stars Paul Rudd alongside McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, with a story that aims to pay homage to the classic films while also introducing the series to a new generation.
