When the Xbox Series X debuted in November 2020, it offered gamers a next-gen gaming experience like no other. Yet, design-wise, Xbox enthusiasts clamored for a touch of personal flair, akin to what PlayStation was offering its fans. Three years later and Microsoft is finally listening.
Reminiscent of the customization options Microsoft once offered with the Xbox 360's swappable faceplates, it has now unveiled a more advanced and sophisticated customization solution - the Xbox Series X console wraps.
These are not mere stickers or vinyl wraps, but intricately designed, solid core panels that wrap around the Xbox Series X seamlessly.
The initiative is undeniably an attempt to rival Sony's interchangeable PS5 plates, which took the market by storm and a frequent target of scalpers, particularly with their Spider-Man 2-themed designs. But, Microsoft's console wraps have a unique charm. The wraps are not only aesthetically pleasing but are also designed with a notable focus on performance. Monique Chatterjee, the senior design director at Xbox, says the wrap uses "high-tech fabric finishes" combined with a silicone interior to ensure stability. It's an elegant solution, ensuring that all vents remain clear and even includes small feet on the bottom to guarantee smooth airflow.
