Starfield is probably the most hyped game on this year’s release calendar. Fans of the upcoming space exploration ARPG are now thinking of creative excuses to free up their schedules on launch day.
Starfield is arguably Microsoft’s biggest exclusive in recent years and the first new Bethesda IP in the last quarter century. This means Xbox fans are extremely excited to explore what many say is Bethesda’s biggest game ever.
Some fans are so eager to try out the game that they have already come up with excuses to call in sick for work or school on September 6th. One Reddit user created a thread for players to share their plans on launch day.
The thread starter asked who among the community is taking Paid Time Off (PTO) ahead of Starfield’s release. Many fans shared that they have requested for day-offs especially those who have pre-ordered and are getting early access on September 1.
“Who else is scheduling time off for launch day?” thebutler97 asked. “Just pulled the trigger on my PTO request for 1 September through 8, and don’t regret it at all. I did the same for Elden Ring last year, and Red Dead Redemption 2 a few years before that. Some might say it’s a silly thing to spend a week of time off on, but the idea of watching the clock all day while waiting to play sounds maddening to me.”
Other fans who may not have available PTO credits or are still in school may call in sick.
Klutzy_Helicopter635 wrote, “I’m already feeling myself coming down with some sickness that will make me miss school.” Jaded-Ad-7751 replied, “Here’s [one] for you: ‘Many astronauts suddenly feel as if they are upside-down or may even have difficulty sensing the location of their own arms and legs. This disorientation is described as Space Adaptation Syndrome (SAS) and is widely recognized as the main cause of Space Motion Sickness (SMS).'”
Many other users have shared that they requested a day off on September 1 when the game becomes available on early access and are taking advantage of the long weekend in the US. The country will be celebrating Labor Day on September 4 and many players with PTO will get at least four days in early access to enjoy the game.
“Pre-ordered for early access, took Friday off, and have Monday off for Labor Day,” HueyMcSqueezy wrote. “Told my wife if we have any family plans for Labor Day weekend I hope she and our son have fun doing them.”
“My 40th birthday is September 6th… Launch day,” another user shared. I’m probably going to tell my family and friends I’m doing something huge and epic, but really I’m going to be on my couch playing Starfield, eating pizza, and wearing a NASA flight suit.
