Nearly two years and much of the COVID-19 pandemic later, we finally have a glimpse of the upcoming Christopher Nolan biopic.
Nolan's first film that isn't produced by Warner Bros. will star Cillian Murphy as the scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. The movie will follow Oppenheimer and his role in the creation of the atomic bomb, the weapon that ended World War II. Oppenheimer led the Manhattan Project and was instrumental in putting United States ahead of the global arm's race forever. The film will also be based on American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, which won a Pulitzer Prize.
The explosive teaser doesn't give away much but it sets the tone for the destruction caused by the creations of Murphy's character.
Oppenheimer marks relatively uncharted territory for Nolan. This is the first time that Nolan is working with a different production company. Despite making movies with Warner Bros., for years, Nolan partnered up with Universal Pictures after shopping it around when Warner Bros. refused to give in to his demands.
