With the arrival of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s 2.0.1 patch, players finally have the official green light to dive into the game’s DLC: The Teal Mask.
The first half of the two-part DLC marks the debut of the latest expansion for the newest additions to the Pokemon line of video games. Fans of the series are exciting if not playing already, eagerly anticipating the treasure trove of content that awaits them.
The Teal Mask’s unveiling introduces the Kitikami region, a fresh playground for players to explore. The newest region, which seems to nestle close to Paldea, is distinct in its own right, highlighting the intention to distinguish The Teal Mask from the DLCs of previous Pokemon games. More than just a new geographic expanse, the Kitikami region teems with over 100 new Pokemon, ready for players to discover and train. The blend of familiar Pokemon and new entrants is sure to engage both seasoned players and newcomers.
In The Teal Mask, players are introduced to at least seven new Pokemon species, including the legendary Ogerpon and three Pokemon rooted in the Momotaro folklore: Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. Applin enthusiasts are in for a treat with the unveiling of its new evolution, Dipplin. Additionally, the DLC showcases Poltchageist, a Pokemon bearing resemblance to Polteageist, albeit being an entirely different species.
Yet, the adventures in the Pokemon realm are far from over. The Teal Mask is but the first chapter of a larger narrative. The second installment, dubbed The Indigo Disk, beckons players to the Blueberry Academy. While the nexus between the two DLCs remains shrouded in mystery, what’s evident is that The Indigo Disk promises to reintroduce previous generation’s Partner Pokemon. Fans can also anticipate new Pokemon, notably Archaludon – an evolution of Duraludon – and the enigmatic Paradox Pokemon Raging Bolt and Iron Crown. These offerings are sure to deepen the overarching narrative, especially with revelations around the phenomenon of Terastallization and its ties to the Legendary Pokemon Terapagos.
For those itching to embark on this new journey, The Teal Mask DLC is accessible upon purchasing The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Expansion Pass from the Nintendo Switch eShop. This pass is the key to both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk DLC.
A word to the wise, there are distinct passes for both Scarlet and Violet, so players should ensure they secure the right version corresponding to their base game.
The DLC’s narrative kicks off following the chapter, First Day of School, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Upon receiving a Rotom call from Jacq, players are informed about the annual school trip. Fortuitously, the protagonist secures a spot for the expedition to Kitakami without any effort. As part of the adventure, players will rendezvous at the Naranja Academy in Mesagoza, either on foot or using the map for flight. A chat with Briar, located centrally in the academy’s lobby, will pave the way to Kitakami. Jacq assists by updating players’ Pokedex to capture details of the Pokemon discovered in Kitikami. As players prepare for this exciting journey, they can choose to capture more Pokemon, engage in training, or shop for essentials. Once all set, conversing with Briar and affirming the decision whisks players away to the Land of Kitakami.
For players who want to take a break or a switch between landscapes, the game offers the flexibility to hop between in Kitakami and Paldea. All it takes is a quick map check.
The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC is a veritable feast for Pokemon enthusiasts, promising hours of exploration, challenges, and intrigue.
The second half of the two-part DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, The Indigo Disk, will be available later this year.
