Sony gave Square Enix the reigns as its closing act for the first big gaming event this month and the Final Fantasy studio did not disappoint.

As it did with the initial trailer, FFXVI turned a lot of heads as Square Enix revealed more details about its setting as well as the conflict that will help shape the world.

With Final Fantasy 14's Naoki Yoshida helming the project and backed by Creative Business Unit III, the upcoming PS5-exclusive will feature epic battles between popular summons like Ifrit, Shiva, and Titan, among several others.

Unfortunately, Square Enix also confirmed at the latest State of Play showcase that FFXVI isn't coming out later this year.

If nothing else, the 3-minute-long "Dominance" trailer is a nice consolation for a game that would have been the perfect way to cap off Final Fantasy's 35th-anniversary celebration in December. Instead, fans will have to wait until the Summer of 2023 to enjoy the sixteenth mainline Final Fantasy installment.
