On Saturday, Netflix announced Henry Cavill's departure from its fantasy drama series, The Witcher. While the show's third season is currently in production and stars Cavill, the Man of Steel actor will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia from the fourth season. However, fans haven't taken kindly to the announcement.
Many took to social media to register their displeasure, with some threatening they'll stop watching the series altogether. One fan was quite mindful of Hemsworth and wrote, "No offense to Liam Hemsworth but I gotta agree not sure I have any interest in a Witcher Series without Henry Cavill. He was perfect in the role. Huge bummer he's leaving."
However, many fans weren't as understanding. One user commented, "BOYCOTT THE WITCHER" while another fan went as far as threatening to cancel his Netflix subscription as a whole. The fan wrote "Having read reports now, If Netflix does not bring back Henry Cavill to the #Witcher and get rid of their disrespectful writers then that's the end of my subscription.
In a statement released by Netflix, Cavill said goodbye to fans of the series. He stated that his journey as Geralt is over and he was passing the torch over to Hemsworth. He ended his address by admitting his excitement to see how Hemsworth will depict the character he has played since 2019.
