Fans Are Calling Out Geoff Keighley for His Bias Towards Playstation

The Game Awards' creator is facing criticism for his frequent Playstation 5 Pro tweets following its official reveal.

PlayStation exclusives are expected to dominate The Game Awards this year.

With E3 now no longer, Geoff Keighley and his brainchild, The Game Awards, is now the de-facto video game event of the year—a year-ender (and sometimes musical show) that has crowned the likes of The Last of Us Part 2, It Takes Two, Elden Ring, and Baldur’s Gate 3 as the best video games of their respective years.

Naturally, Keighley is a fan of gaming, and he hasn’t been afraid to profess his love for the industry by giving Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation a shoutout every once in a while. But ever since the controversial reveal of the PlayStation 5 Pro, with its high asking price, Keighley hasn’t stopped gushing about it.

It’s gotten to a point that the internet has compiled every time Keighley has gone on Twitter to talk about the X. Hint: it’s a lot.

Astro Bot is the current leader to win the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024.

As pointed out by @HazzadorGamin on X, Keighley has shared multiple tweets that directly talks about the PS5 Pro on the social media platform, which, according to them, isn’t a good look, and we agree.

While PlayStation is far-and-away the leader in the video game industry right now, Keighley should probably tone down his adoration for the mid-cycle refresh, or at the very least, keep it to himself.

This isn’t the first time that such accusations have been thrown at Keighley.

Back in 2020, Keighley was on the receiving end of accusations that Naughty Dog “paid off” the game’s awards show so that The Last of Us Part 2 would win several awards. The controversial PlayStation exclusive received 10 nominations at The Game Awards 2020 and walked away with 7.

The year before, fans questioned Keighley’s friendship with Hideo Kojima after he spent more time talking about Death Stranding, Kojima Production’s debut title following their split from Konami, at The Game Awards 2019. Death Stranding also won several awards that year, but The Game of the Year trophy ultimately went to another PlayStation exclusive, FromSOftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

With PlayStation expected to have a significant presence at the Tokyo Game Show on September 26 and The Game Awards 2024 later this year—Sony is celebrating the PlayStation brand’s 30th anniversary this year, in case you didn’t know— fans may start accusing Keighley again for showing his preference for the blue team soon enough.

After Death Stranding took up much of the air time of The Game Awards 2019, its sequel is expected to do the same the year it comes out on the PlayStation 5.

Then again, the PlayStation 5 Pro is something that the rest of the gaming industry just can’t seem to stop talking about these days.

Most recently, industry experts over at Digital Foundry claimed that the PlayStation 5 Pro might not be able to run Grand Theft Auto 6 at 60 frames per second because of a CPU bottleneck. But they did add that, when it comes to value, the PS5 Pro isn’t a tough sell for console owners who are looking for PC-like performance because of how much cheaper it is compared to building a similarly specced PC.

Speaking of PlayStation, this year’s best games are exclusive to the PS5, which includes the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Black Myth: Wukong, and Astro Bot. Each one is expected to get nominated for an award or two at The Game Awards.
