Marvel has recently announced that Steven Yeun is joining the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. However, the studio has not yet disclosed the role of the Walking Dead alumni in the film. Fans have been busy speculating on who the actor will be playing.
When Yeun joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was revealed that the actor will be playing a central role in the movie. Fans assumed that Yeun could be cast as The Sentry as it has been rumored that the anti-hero will be the main villain of the movie.
One artist on Instagram with the username @clements.ink created an image depicting Yeun as The Sentry and he looks pretty good in it.
While Marvel has not confirmed Yeun’s role, it is interesting to see the possibility of the actor as The Sentry.
What we know about The Sentry in the MCU
The Sentry’s real name is Robert Reynolds, a delinquent and meth addict. Reynolds broke into a secure facility looking for a fix and accidentally drank the Golden Sentry Serum. The serum gave him the power of a million exploding suns.
While the serum gave The Sentry superhuman speed, strength, and the ability to fly, it had some serious side effects. The process left Reynolds mentally unstable and with a split personality. This new personality is called Void and causes The Sentry to become violent.
Void has a different set of powers than The Sentry. He can shapeshift and control the weather and darkness. The Void can unleash a deadly attack called the “infinite-tendrils”. Victims impaled by the tendrils see traumatic visions of their past, present, and future.
According to the rumors, The Sentry will be part of the Thunderbolts, mainly composed of anti-heroes and villains under the direction of President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and CIA director Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine. The Sentry will be part of the team sent to retrieve adamantium from the body of the dead celestial Tiamut. Recall that The Eternals turned Tiamut into stone to stop it from destroying Earth.
The plot leak reveals that The Sentry will have a mental episode during the expedition to Tiamut Island and cause chaos. The Thunderbolts, led by Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier, will try to stop the rampage before it spills over to other places.
The plot is only based on rumors, so please take it with a grain of salt. Marvel has not officially shared information on the story of The Thunderbolts. The Thunderbolts will be opening in theaters on July 26, 2024.
