Jujutsu Kaisen, the latest shonen sensation, is making a thrilling entrance into the renowned free-to-play battle royale, Fortnite.
After an earlier leak, Epic Games has finally confirmed that everybody’s favorite sorcerers are ready to drop into the Fortnite fray.
The introduction of these mystical warriors was announced by Epic Games in a teaser trailer that captured the attention of millions, shared on Fortnite’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The trailer featured a whimsical scene of Fortnite’s Banana Man and Fishsticks engaged in a shadow puppet theater, performing their amateurish renditions of animals on a brick wall. But as the creatures depicted gradually transitioned to bear eerie resemblance to the shikigami of Megumi Fushiguro, the trailer took a turn towards the darker side of the spectrum.
Suddenly, a torrent of black, shadowy energy rippled across the screen, the wall crumbling as the cast of Jujutsu Kaisen – Yuji, Megumi, Gojo, and Nobara – burst forth, brandishing the sorcerous Ten Shadows Technique, which is fitting indeed for the introduction of these formidable characters into Fortnite’s expansive universe.
The collaboration between Fortnite and Jujutsu Kaisen follows a string of similar crossovers, including those with Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, My Hero Academia, and Attack on Titan. From Naruto’s main quartet to the additional introduction of side characters like Gaara and Itachi, Epic Games has steadily been inviting anime’s most celebrated icons to its metaverse.
This crossover into Japanese animation later extended to Dragon Ball Super, which not only brought four new skins into the fold but also introduced additional gear, islands, and the iconic Kamehameha as an in-game mythic item. Soo after came a worthy successor, My Hero Academia, offering new skins and the coveted One For All power as a mythic in-game item. The addition of Attack on Titan’s Eren Yeager through exclusive Battle Pass quests, coupled with the implementation of ODM gear for quicker travel, marked a trend in the increasingly nuanced integration of these franchises into Fortnite’s gameplay mechanics.
The crossover with Jujutsu Kaisen was hinted at when dataminers unearthed images of bundles featuring character skins as well as anime-inspired accessories, notably of Nobara, Megumi, and Gojo. The new leak suggests that all of them will come with a backbling, while Megumi and Nobara are expected to have a pickaxe. Moreover, Megumi will have some emotes, mimicking the hand puppet gestures seen in the teaser trailer.
While the precise cost for this latest Fortnite Crossover isn’t yet official, based on previous collaborations, a 5,000 V-Bucks bundle should be sufficient. For those keen to invest in future events, a bundle of 13,500 V-Bucks could be a prudent purchase.
Fortnite’s collaborations are part of its ingenious strategy to continually refresh its universe. Aside from Japanese anime, it recently welcomed iconic figures from other franchises, such as the Transformers’ Optimus Prime, Star Wars characters, and Futurama.
Fortnite’s incoming collaboration with Jujutsu Kaisen, scheduled for release with patch v25.30 on August 8, demonstrates a commitment to evolving its gaming experience.
For fans of Jujutsu Kaisen, the plotline has been a roller-coaster journey of action, intrigue, and supernatural horror with its brilliant mix of traditional folklore and contemporary sensibilities.
The entrance of these sorcerers into the virtual battleground of Fortnite will open the door for players to experience a taste of the show’s unique magic firsthand while providing a fresh twist to their gameplay.
Speaking of Fortnite, developers are already making new games in Fortnite like Look North World, a studio made up of industry veterans, including the co-creator of Halo.
