BioWare Points are a relic from a bygone era when Electronic Arts was much more greedy. These days, EA's hunger for money has mellowed. EA no longer wants you to buy imaginary currency with real money so that you can buy DLCs for their games, as was the case with BioWare points. Furthermore, EA is removing BioWare Points altogether. As a result, EA is also making select Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC free effective immediately.
TLDR; if you haven't played Lair of the Shadow Broker before, now's a good time to fix that.
The news of the free Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC comes from u/AircraftSam89, who claims to have received an email from EA, saying:
We're reaching out to let you know that starting October 11, 2022, BioWare Points will no longer be available as a form of currency in the Origin store.
According to the email, the "affected" games include the following: Dragon Age II Dragon Age: Origins Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3 Starting on October 11, players can get the DLC for the said titles just by clicking the "Get it Free" button under the "Extra Content" tab. The change does not affect other existing EA premium currencies such as "crystals" and "platinum" that are for Battlefront II and Dragon Age: Inquisition, respectively.
