The anticipation among fans to journey back to the Lands Between with the forthcoming Elden Ring DLC is palpable. FromSoftware has confirmed that progress on the upcoming expansion is proceeding smoothly, further fueling excitement among eager gamers – and no, still no release date. Sigh.
Kadokawa, FromSoftware’s parent company, recently provided an update for Shadow of the Erdtree in its latest earning results that were published Thursday. The company still doesn’t have a release date for the expansion but shared that development is going smoothly.
The release timing of DLC for Elden Ring has not yet been announced, but development is proceeding smoothly,” Kadokawa said of Shadow of the Erdtree.
During the Q&A session, the developer reiterated its previous statement about the DLC. “We are currently working hard on the development of DLC for Elden Ring but we have not announced a release date at this time.”
Shadow of the Erdtree was announced in February and FromSoftware has been quietly working on the expansion for over a year. The studio has not revealed anything about the upcoming DLC except for a single piece of concept art. Dropping just one image was enough to send fans of the best-selling FromSoftware title into a frenzy.
There has been a lot of speculation on what Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be about. One popular theory is the involvement of the Demigod Miquella. Fans have speculated that the blonde figure seen in the concept art is Miquella based on the hairstyle. Others suspect that Queen Marika will make an appearance in the upcoming expansion.
There have been rumors that FromSoftware is targeting an early 2024 release for Shadow of the Erdtree. Many expect that the studio will have a trailer reveal for the expansion at the Game Awards later this year. FromSoftware previously announced Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon at last year’s Game Awards making the event the likely venue for its future reveals.
FromSofware is reportedly working on multiple projects and is on a hiring spree. Players expect that Armored Core 6 will also be getting an expansion given its recent success. The Mecha game has sold over 1.3 million copies in just the first two weeks.
While it pales in comparison to Elden Ring’s record-breaking sales, it does give FromSoftware the freedom and opportunity to develop more games while waiting on the release of Shadow of the Erdtree.
The earning report also indicated that the company plans to “expand the scope of FromSoftware’s own publishing” before fiscal year 2027. This could possibly mean that the studio is expanding exponentially and may self-publish future titles. FromSoftware has previously partnered with Sony and Bandai Namco in previous titles including Elden Ring.
