Elden Ring PC players are getting hacked to become stuck in infinite death loops

The latest Elden Ring exploit sees hackers corrupt save files so that players are stuck in a death loop forever.

Uh-oh, it appears that hackers are at it again, this time making life miserable for Elden Ring players on the PC.

According to several reports from PC players, an Elden Ring exploit currently exists where an invader can trigger a glitch that will crash a host’s game immediately. Then, when an affected player tries to log back into Elden Ring, they’ll find their character falling into a death loop – forever stuck in a cycle of falling to death, with their progress effectively lost.

You can check out the video below for a better look at what happens to players targeted by the Elden Ring exploit:

So far, Elden Ring modders haven’t had any luck finding a temporary fix for the exploit, although there is a possible workaround that works for some people. As suggested by someone on Reddit, you can try pressing Alt + F4 on your PC just before your character dies. If you time it right, it will give you more time when you log back into Elden Ring, allowing you to quickly warp to a site of grace and avoid potentially losing all your progress. Unfortunately, if you’re slow, the death loop will start and you’re pretty much stuck.

While not all Elden Ring players have encountered this exploit, there are reports of those who’ve lost hundreds of hours of gameplay because of this. You will want to be careful the next time you play.

The good news about this is that you can try two proven workarounds: you can try to avoid playing online and back up your save files if you do. Admittedly, these are far from ideal solutions, but they’re better than losing all of your hard work and effort for nothing.

It appears that Elden Ring is suffering from similar vulnerabilities as the Dark Souls games did.

Hopefully, FromSoftware addresses the problem and issue a fix soon.

Speaking of Elden Ring, the latest RPG from the makers of Dark Souls continues to sell well. It’s now officially the studio’s best-selling title and poised to bag several video game awards later this year. More importantly, a recent press release from FromSoftware and BANDAI Namco hints at more Elden Ring projects coming in the future, which might include a sequel or even a live-action adaptation.
