2014's Edge of Tomorrow was both a critical and commercial success. The film, which starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, grossed $370.5 million at the global box office on a $178 million budget. Naturally, it made sense for Warner Bros. to make a sequel to the beloved sci-fi action film in hopes of turning it into a franchise. However, Warner Bros. has found it difficult to do this, which is probably why it's turning its attention to the small screen instead.

According to a lawsuit by Village Roadshow Films against Warner Bros., the media giant has moved "forward with a television series based on Edge of Tomorrow."

Village Roadshow Films is a long-time partner of WB. The two worked together on Edge of Tomorrow as well as The Matrix Resurrections. As for the reason behind the lawsuit, it appears the gist is that Village Roadshow refuses to give up its rights to Edge of Tomorrow and other properties that it co-produced and co-financed with WB. Also, it appears that Village Roadshow Films is one of the reasons why an Edge of Tomorrow sequel hasn't been made, as the production studio has decided to move on from the 2014 film.

Having said that, it's not clear if WB has already moved forward with the Edge of Tomorrow TV show or if it's still in the planning stages. Most likely, it's also stuck in development hell, just like the Edge of Tomorrow sequel.
