The Sims 4 came out about eight years ago and has since had a ton of content added to the game. There have been twelve paid expansions and also twelve game packs. There are also numerous stuff packs and kits for the game.
EA recently announced that the social simulation game would be free-to-play starting today. The move has fueled speculation that Maxis is expanding its player base in preparation for the next entry into the franchise.
During the recently concluded Behind The Sims Summit, EA and Maxis announced that they are developing the "next-generation Sims game and creative platform." It is not quite The Sims 5 that everyone was hoping for, but rather a sneak peek into the next generation of the social sim.
Lyndsay Pearson, VP of franchise creative, revealed the new game which is currently called "Project Rene." Pearsons describes the new game as "reimagining The Sims you know and love with new ways to play. This is the future of The Sims, built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories."
