Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 has truly stood the test of time. The game, originally released in 2016, still holds the interest of many gamers even though it’s been seven years. More importantly, the publisher, Bandai Namco, still provides regular updates in support.

On Thursday, October 12, the video game developer released a new major update. Bandai Namco had announced the expansion during a roadmap update earlier in the week where it announced that even more content is on the way next year.

The new update includes a new event tagged the Festival of Universes and a new battle mode called the Cross Versus. Apart from these two, the recent update will introduce an Awoken Skill: Ultra Instinct and Avatar Level Cap Unlock feature improvements, among others.

There is also a Welcome Campaign with fans getting a log-in bonus as well as a “Free Trial for select DLC characters” until October 19. The DLC characters that are available with the update include Cabba, Bojack, Fused Zamasu, Jiren, SSGSS Gogeta, SSGSS Vegito, Goku’s Ultra Instinct form, and Super Saiyan Kefla, among others.

According to Bandai Namco’s roadmap, 2024 will see the release of an expansion that will include new scenarios and new playable characters, as well as other content. More importantly, the studio will finally release the long-awaited PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions of the action role-playing video game.

The studio teased even more content in the future with an untitled section in its roadmap, although it might simply be a dig at gamers who joke the game refuses to die.

Even though many gamers love and enjoy Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, some others have called for Bandai Namco to work on a third installment in the series. With the company’s latest announcements, it seems there are no plans for a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 anytime soon. It is doubtful that the company will go to the trouble of releasing a new-gen version of the game if it has a new installment in the works or plans for one.

By the way, Bandai Namco confirmed it is working on a fourth installment of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi back in March. While there is no information on the title’s release date, Bandai Namco’s recent trademark filing suggest it is not far off.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is currently available on PC, Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions will launch at an unannounced date next year.
