has revealed that Disney is developing sequels to Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia.

During the company's first-quarter earnings call, the returning head of the entertainment mega corporation shared the news, saying: Today I'm so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia. We'll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we're leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises. Disney's move is hardly a surprise given the fact that its recent original animated projects have had dismal performances at the box office. For context, Strange World, released in 2022, grossed $73.4 million at the box office against a budget of $180 million while Encanto, released in 2021, grossed $256 million against a $150 million budget.

The two projects were eventually transferred to Disney+ where they attracted new audiences and Encanto proved to be a hit. Lightyear, a spinoff of the company's Toy Story franchise, also had an uninspiring box office performance with a $226.4 million gross against a $200 million budget.
